Amorosi on the news, nightlife, gossip and bitchiness beats.

Published: Nov 4, 2009

Philadelphia's tore up — over the Phillies, SEPTA, charter school overhauls, everything. You know it's hurting when Beanie Sigel, the last of the Roc-A-Fellas, disses mentor/pal Jay-Z like he did in "What You Talkin' Bout (I Ain't Ya Average Cat)." Beans says Hova ratted him out and put money over friendship. He's nearly crying by track's end. Can't help wonder if those near-tears ain't about more than 12 bars.

► We love Green Line Café booker/VJ/DJ Rich "Yakov" Wexler and his Sherman Arts. Wexler really steps out of bounds with the OutsiderFest of original artists (Nov. 6's Green Line gig with sequined legend B.J. Snowden and Justin Duerr), cover-song presentations (Nov. 9 at National Mechanics with Snowden, Darren Finizio, Sixth Borough's Tabitha Vidaurri, Bob Carlton and Needles Jones covering Shaggs, Skip Spence, Tiny Tim, etc.) and events with Marc Sand, Lisa Sunshine and a Wesley Willis screening before month's end.

► Nothing's better than Birdie Busch and her sweet new Pattern of Saturn she debuted at First Unitarian's chapel. Yet that's where we found out that her-pal-and-ours, fuzzy-headed multi-instrumentalist Devin Greenwood, is leaving Philly for Brooklyn. Is this why he grew a mustache? Oh FUchapel.

► The gentlemen of Record Breakin' and Basement Soul at Xochitl drop lotsa beats and CDs; like Philly house-soul-saint Anthony Valadez's Audio/Visual release. Hit their cellar jam Nov. 6. You won't be sorry.

► Of all the peeps (Jennifer Love Hewitt and Jamie Kennedy at Buddakan, the cast of Glee at Continental Mid-town, some fucking Yankees in suits at Barclay Prime) spied this week, my fave was home-gal Mary Patel at the Jolly's opening. I've mentioned bad-biz regarding her film property lawsuits early in '09. But she's seeing roses now that she met and is marrying Jack O'Halloran. He's a big man who's acted in Farewell, My Lovely, The Flintstones, Superman and is currently developing Long Beach Studios at an old Boeing manufacturing site in California. Patel met O'Halloran on the phone regarding her legal case and a project for HBO, stayed chatting and now they're engaged. Patel moves out there in November. They'll be wed in February 2010. "By none other than Jack's friend, Governor Schwarzenegger," says Mary. Aw.

► Lots of old friends on this First Friday, Nov. 6, bill at Patou: Caterpillar whom yon indie teens love, Sweetie (Philly's Eurythmics-esque electro-duo of John Blake and Melissa Paser who haven't graced a stage in five-plus years), and printed-everywhere rock photog Scott Weiner exhibiting-and-selling his wares to move. The last guy's a best bud but the other folk are cute, too.
